ACOUSTIC GUITAR, ELECTRIC GUITAR
TRAVIS IS NOT CURRENTLY TAKING STUDENTS
Currently living in Austin, TX, music has been the center of my life for the last 20 years. I specialize in guitar, but can play saxophone, keyboard, bass, and drums. I am fascinated with multiple genres but most enjoy progressive metal, jazz and blues. My influences range from original jazz guitarists like Django, Wes Montgomery to modern progressive artists such as Tosin Abasi and Misha Mansoor. When not playing music, I enjoy swimming, hiking/running with my dog, and cooking BBQ.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate's in Music Composition from Selkirk College
I have taught lessons on and off to friends/acquaintances for the last 6 years.
I believe in tailoring my lesson plan to each individual student. The first lesson will begin with a conversation about the students' goals as a musician and obtain an understanding of what they want to accomplish with lessons. Based on this, lessons can include music theory, chord structure and scales, improvisation and composition elements. We can focus on technique and developing a certain style. If you just want to learn to play your favorite song, that's fine too. I typically try to push the envelope with students in terms of difficultly, while making sure that playing stays fun and rewarding. As a student, it's hard to know what you don't know, so I do try and guide you towards things I think you'll find useful, but haven't necessarily asked to learn. Most advancements aren't made during lessons but during practice, the lessons merely guide practice, so ultimately my goal is getting you to love what you play enough to practice it consistently.
I look forward to getting to know you and helping you reach your musical goals!
