TEACHING APPROACH

Having taught students from ages 6 - 60, I am aware that everyone learns differently. Students that study can have classes on whatever they want to improve. For those looking to improve all areas of guitar and musicality, I offer various areas of study that are listed below:

Technique:
These classes breakdown the various individual techniques used in guitar playing and show how they are applied across the neck by creating musical examples and provide additional reading material for students to study outside of classes.

Theory:
These classes take the student through the understanding of harmony in music, rhythm and demonstrate how these apply to various different instruments.

Guitar notation:
These classes breakdown notating guitar both as tabular and standard music notation.

Chords and song study:
These classes take the student through the chords needed to navigate the guitar and play songs in different styles of music.

Ear training/Aural Perception:
These classes take the student through training the ear. Focusing on diatonic harmony, intervals, scales and identifying these within songs and compositions.

------

Furthermore:
Some say 'we were all learners once' however I believe that 'We never stop learning'. No matter how good you are at something or for how long you have been doing it, there is always room to improve, to progress and learn more.

Having taught students from ages 6 - 60, I am aware that everyone learns differently. I have a strong understanding that it is far easier to get the results you want when learning if you particularly enjoy doing so. Therefore I believe I must be positive encouraging at all times. I like to demonstrate skills first to get students excited about learning. I have often found this to be a very effective way. Despite now being 26 years old, I feel I can relate to younger students due to my experience teaching since the age of 16. Due to my professional, attitude and work experience, I can relate adults 100%.

I have an entire list of reading material that I recommend students to use whilst studying with me in order to get the most of our their musical journey and maximize their learning potential.

REVIEWS

Ben has been providing guitar tuition sessions to me with consistently high quality. He is open minded and highly skilled professional, who is capable of bringing music theory knowledge and wealth of practical experience in natural and comfortable way, adapting lessons’ pace and discussed material to the student’s skills level. Ben is very flexible in the way how sessions are planned and conducted, and makes tuition interactive and educational process. I would recommend getting in touch with Ben and considering him for tuition, should you want to improve your theoretical knowledge, learn new techniques, rectify or sharpen guitar playing skills. For me being a non-professional guitar player, but a person who is passionate about learning how to play the guitar, Ben brought me to another level of knowledge and educated with tips and hints how my playing techniques can be improved and existing mistakes corrected, as well as he highlighted which areas special attention shall be paid to. Having such positive experience as Ben’s student, I think professional and skilled guitar players will also find collaboration with Ben being fruitful and advantageous.

Upon meeting Ben, it became clear that his desire to support the students was only matched by his love of music and playing guitar. His insights published via his website into the inner workings and real life situations faced by young and aspiring performers at The Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) have become invaluable to the students, the wider online music community and ACM.
