ABOUT

I am an excellent music teacher with 8 years teaching experience; recorder, piano, vocal, choirs, accompaniment guitar, ukulele, theory, general musicianship. I tailor my lessons to the individual, students ranging from toddlers to adults. I also have a wealth of experience working with children and adults with additional and varied complex needs, so I can tailor and adapt lessons as appropriate. I am happy to all grades ABRSM/RIAM/LCM/VCM. I am a qualified Music Therapist so I enjoy incorporating music improvisation as part of my lessons too.

I majored in Composition as part of my International Bachelor of Music Degree, and I enjoying arranging music of my students choice; tailoring it to their abilities. I have a Diploma in classical singing. I have grade 8 piano and I am self-taught on the recorder, guitar, ukulele.
I teach piano Beginners to intermediate (grade 5), Recorder Beginner to intermediate (grade 5), Singing Beginner to intermediate (grade 5), Ukulele Advanced Beginner to intermediate (self taught so not sure of grade), Accompaniment Guitar- I am a singer, so I use it as an accompaniment instrument mainly, I typically teach accompaniment of songs, no classical training.

I love teaching music, and I know myself how rewarding it can be to attend music lessons.I believe it is so important to find the right fit for student, so I always have a trial period before we agree on fixed term with student. This ensures both are happy and comfortable with fit.

TEACHING APPROACH

Every lesson is different because I do not believe there is one shoe fits all when it comes to teaching. I have an student led approach tailoring the lesson to their strengths and Abilities. Typically the lesson will begin with some sort of warm up exercise, pieces we are working on and then sometimes finish with some improvisation-however the improvisation is something I am still trying to hone with students online as you can no longer play at the same time, unless my screen is muted. With really young students I incorporate musical games as a reprieve from intervals where high levels of focus are needed.

REVIEWS

Niamh has taught my young daughter the ukulele for 2 years. She is professional, warm and very experienced, setting goals whilst encouraging and motivating. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her.

Niamh is a wonderful teacher. She is a fountain of technical knowledge as well as being patient and supportive. I had always thought I was just born unlucky not being able to sing. She has shown me how untrue that belief was and that with some hard work and determination, anyone can learn to sing. Thank you so much!

Niamh has worked in many schools in the local area and this is where I discovered her and engaged her services as one to one tutor. She is excellent at what she does and very clear in her instruction. She is very talented and can play many instruments. She teaches several instruments but for us she has taught keyboard/piano. She has helped with last minute nerves for exams and videos of tricky fingerings at the last minute when my child’s nerves were getting the better of him which contributed to a distinction score in exam. Thanks Niamh.

Niamh was a brilliant piano teacher to my two daughters aged 8 and 11. She encouraged their love and understanding of all styles of music as well as supporting their solid learning of technique and theory. My eldest reached Grade 3 with her teaching and both will continue their music studies. We’re very grateful for her fantastic tutoring.

Engaged with my 6 year old brilliantly. Niamh really connected with my daughter, whilst being firm and patient. My daughter has some attention and hyperactivity problems, but Niamh was able to overcome them and nurture her love of music and singing. My daughter loved Niamh and misses her!

Niamh taught both of my children, boys aged 8 and 10. She is wonderful with the children who respond well to her kind but firm teaching style. She is very organised and plans carefully for the children taking into account their interests as well as ensuring they make excellent progress. Both of my boys loved working with Niamh looking forward to their lessons each week.

Niamh is fantastic- she is a really brilliant tutor. She is incredibly patient, so knowlegible and was able to guide my daughter through her Grades. Niamh makes learning fun but maintains a strict schedule which really worked well for my child.

Niamh has a great skill in teaching music. She started my son on a mix of recorder and piano and apart from the fact the he absolutely loved her, he learnt heaps. And this is no small undertaking in a 6 year old boy who can’t sit still and loves to chat! I can’t recommend her highly enough.

Niamh is a highly dedicated, kind, talented, knowledgeable musician and she has the rare talent of making lessons fun and bringing out the best in her pupils. My daughter loved every moment of her lessons and always looked forward to them. Niamh gave her self confidence to get on stage and perform, develop her love of singing and music, for which I will always be thankful.

Niamh has been teaching my 10-year-old daughter Lili to play the ukulele. She has been absolutely brilliant, really patient, great with children, a calming presence and someone who really loves and knows her art. If you need a private tutor, she’s the best.

Niamh is a fantastic teacher, my son Fausto liked her very much , she is able to capture the student’s attention and interest. She works very well with the guys and is able to convey the passion and her skills to students in a very simple way. She is a very good teacher who easily manages to transmit her passion to her students and in a simple way helps them improve their personal technique. I highly recommend Niamh to anyone who is looking for a good teacher.
